According to Internet World magazine, it has been estimated that more than 98% of the words listed in a standard English dictionary have been registered as domain names. Around the time we incorporated in 1997, the founding members of our organization, formerly Cornerstone Consulting Group (CCG) rebranded with a new identity: Quai, Inc. Kirk Hill, Chief Executive Officer, explains “the proliferation of organizations utilizing Cornerstone in their name was of primary concern.” In addressing this, the founding partners identified the qualities which CCG strived to deliver, and cross-referenced this across many languages for ease of translation. The decision to consider translating in multiple languages took into account the longevity and expansion intended. Out of hundreds of possibilities and word associations, the founding partners determined that acceleration best exemplified our practice, vision and provided the most accurate description for the Internet and its future. Some of these translations include: In Mandarin Chinese there are 14 different characters pronounced Kuai /koo-eye/, a reasonable translation for Quai, most of which translate as swift or quick. Interestingly “kuai su fa zhan” means “fast Ethernet” and “jin kuai” means as fast as possible. In Japanese, Kai /kah-eye/ reads in Kun as kokoroyo /coco-royo/ meaning cheerfully. It usually connotes pleasantness and is most commonly used as a prefix. It is part of the compounds for fast of foot, light, nimble and cheerful. In French, Quai /kay/ translastes to platform.
